Insta360 X5
The X5 is Insta360's news 360 camera. Released in 2025, just one year after the Insta360 X4, it's biggest selling point is the new replaceable lenses. Indeed, although the X4 had an improved lens guard system, it still was vulnerable to the occasional accident and a scratched lens resulted in costly repairs. The X5 has similar characteristics as the X4 but promises improved image quality, battery life and ease of use.
If you are looking for the best 360 camera on the market, the X5 is definitely the best 360 camera of the moment.

New features of the Insta360 X5
- Replaceable lens kit The X5 offers a new system allowing for quick and tool free lens replacement at home. You can purchase a lens replacement kit and switch both lenses for new ones in a few minutes. This makes filming content in precarious situations less stressful and avoid costly repairs through the customer service.
- PureVideo night mode The X5 also boasts a new "PureVideo" mode for low light shooting, offering improved footage over it's predecessor and competition.
- New magnetic mounting system The X5 adds a new magnetic mounting system for a snap-on, snap-off experience. This feature has been offered by the competition for a while and is a great quality of life improvement.
- Better battery life The battery capacity has been increased to 2400mAh and supports fast charging, bringing a 100% charge down to only 35min.

Reasons to buy the Insta360 X5
- Leading 360 company Insta360 was founded as a 360 camera company and has built a solid reputation for their cameras. The success of the Insta360 X4 and the Insta360 X3 before that testify of Insta360's experience delivering great quality cameras with one of the highest 360 resolutions available at 8K30fps.
- Replaceable lenses 360 cameras are fragile by design because the semi-spherical lenses are always exposed to the elements. So far Insta360 addressed the issue with lens guards, but they can't protect the lens from all accidents and the often cause artifacts in the footage. The new replaceable lenses mean the X5 can be used without lens guards for optimal footage, without the fear of irreversible damage to the camera's lenses.
- Versatile While 360 footage remains the X5's selling point, it will also work well as a traditional action camera. In single lens mode it offers up to 4K60fps video, which rivals other state of the art action cameras like the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.
- New mounting system The magnetic mounting system will be a huge improvement for people who need to switch between multiple angles and accessories when filming.
Reasons to avoid the Insta360 X5
- Heavy The X5 is over 7.05oz / 200g and combined with it's long shape, it is an awkard camera to use on helmet mounts. If you plan on using a helmet mount or need to take weight into account, you might want to look into smaller and lighter traditional action cameras like the GoPro Hero 4K (2024) or even a wearable camera like the Insta360 Go 3S.
- Overheating when using 8K Insta360 itself warns about the heat issue when filming in 8K, and only recommends filming at such a high resolution in windy or cold environments. If you plan on filming in hot conditions you will need to limit yourself to 5.7K 360 video or consider another 360 camera like the Kandao Qoocam 3 Ultra.
- No integrated GPS The camera itself does not integrate GPS and although you can pair your X5 with your smartphone to sync GPS data, it is a drawback for some use cases. If GPS is a must for your, the Kandao Qoocam 3 Ultra is a good alternative.
- Not compatible with X4 all accessories Unfortunately, although it shares the same shape and weight as the X4, the newer X5 has slightly different dimensions and port placements which make it unusable with the X4 accessories. Therefore, if you plan on upgrading, you will have to replace certain accessories, including the diving case.
